Thompson Turner Construction completed the building and finishing package for the W.J. Keenan High School. This included all facets of the job with the exception of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing which was contracted directly between the owner and MEP subcontractors. The project consisted of the 256,000-square-foot facility situated on a 110 acre site in northeast Columbia and included classrooms, laboratory, media center, cafeteria, basketball gymnasium including locker rooms. The project also consisted of ROTC rooms, home economics rooms with stoves, video production room, engineering labs, sheet metal shop, engine repair shop and a wood shop. The project also included the state-of-the-art performing arts complex with a hydraulic orchestra pit. Exterior athletic facilities were also added to the project once construction started. These facilities included softball, baseball, football and track fields, as well as practice fields. The site is in excess of one hundred acres and was a greenfield site requiring extensive clearing and earth moving in excess of 400,000 cubic yards of soil.
